YOUR BABY IS 57 WEEKS OLD |
Babies are learning so much at this stage. By the end of this month, according to researchers, 90 percent will be able to walk well by themselves and 75 percent can hold a cup and drink out of it. Your child also may be able to crawl up stairs. Motor and communication skills are coming together too: Many babies can now raise their arms when they're asked “How big?” And some can wave bye-bye (although not necessarily when the person who is leaving is there to see it!).
I got this in my email a few days ago...let's compare...
Lucy can definitely walk well by herself...that's not to say she doesn't take a tumble now and then but for the most part, she is very steady on her feet.
She can absolutely hold a cup - all different kinds - and drink out of it with no problems. She's been able to do this for some time. For the longest time, when taking a bottle, she wanted me (or whoever was giving it to her) to hold the bottle for her. I didn't mind because by this age, feeding her milk was the only time she was peaceful and let me hold her (except for when she was asleep) so I liked holding her bottle for her.
At this point, we are working on giving her milk in cups and it is going fairly well throughout the day but I still give her the evening milk in a bottle and now she still lays on my lap while she drinks it (for the most part, anyway...near the end, she often "escapes" and comes back and drinks it like a baby goat). But while laying on my lap, she holds her own bottle now, too.
Lucy loves sitting on the steps...it's "her" spot...it must seem like a Lucy-sized bench to her. She can climb the stairs and has done so (and has even showed us that she knows how to climb back down them!) but typically, she just kind of hangs out on the bottom step!

She and her daddy like to play "bonk ball" on the steps. When Lucy hits her head we say she "got a bonk" and that's how the name of their game originated...They sit at the bottom of the steps and throw that little rubber baseball up the steps...sometimes it comes flying back down and "bonks" one of them...terrible game...(but she loves it!)
Daddy always asks her, "Who's sooooo big?" and she grins and sticks her arms in the air!
She can and does wave to people, but rarely on demand, and often to people who aren't looking at her (which makes me a little sad because then they can't wave back).
She's a cool cat!
Yesterday she played with GranJan while mommy and daddy were at work.
They "went to the beach!"
Have a great weekend! |
